Play Minecraft Java Edition with Your Phone as a Controller
Minecraft Java Edition supports controllers via the Controllable mod. Use Gamepad — Play Anywhere to turn your Android phone into a virtual Xbox 360 controller and mine, craft, and explore with a real controller — free.
Controller Support in Minecraft Java Edition
Minecraft Java Edition does not have built-in controller support. To use a controller with Java Edition, install the Controllable mod (available on CurseForge for Forge and Fabric). This free mod adds full Xbox 360 / XInput controller support to the Java Edition client.
Once Controllable is installed, connect your phone via the Gamepad app. The mod detects the virtual Xbox 360 controller and provides a full controller UI overlay for Java Edition. Button mapping is customisable within the Controllable mod settings.
Mining & Building
Right trigger to mine, left trigger to place blocks — all Minecraft actions mapped.
Inventory Control
Controllable mod provides a controller-friendly inventory interface for Java Edition.
Open World
Explore biomes, fight mobs, and navigate caves with analog stick control.
Minecraft Bedrock Edition
Minecraft Bedrock Edition (available on the Microsoft Store for Windows) has built-in Xbox controller support — no mods needed. The Gamepad app works directly with Bedrock Edition without any additional setup. Just connect your phone and open Minecraft Bedrock.
If you play both Java and Bedrock, you need the Controllable mod only for the Java version. Bedrock detects the virtual controller automatically.
