Android as a PS4-Style Controller — What You Get

The Gamepad app gives you a full dual-stick layout with L1/L2/R1/R2 triggers, a D-pad, four face buttons, Start, Select, and analog click (L3/R3). On the PC side the app creates a virtual Xbox 360 controller via the ViGEmBus driver, which every game that supports XInput (PlayStation-style input maps directly) recognises automatically.

Because the input is handled as Xbox 360 format rather than DualShock, button prompts in-game will show Xbox labels (A/B/X/Y) rather than PS4 symbols (Cross/Circle/Square/Triangle). For gameplay this makes no difference — the buttons are in identical positions.

🎮

Dual Analog Sticks

Left and right thumbstick zones with full 360° range, indistinguishable from a physical controller.

🎯

Gyroscope Aiming

Tilt your phone to aim — the gyro maps to the right stick for FPS precision.

Sub-10ms Latency

WebSocket over 5GHz WiFi delivers input faster than most wired USB controllers poll.

How to Set Up Your Android Phone as a PS4-Style Controller

Download the Gamepad APK on your Android phone from the Download page. On your Windows PC, download and run the Gamepad Server installer — it includes ViGEmBus automatically. Open the Server app and it shows a QR code. Open the phone app, tap "Scan QR" and point at your screen. The connection completes in under three seconds.

Open any PC game. It will detect the virtual Xbox 360 controller and you can start playing. For Steam games, open Big Picture mode or the Steam controller settings to confirm the controller is recognised — it always shows as "Xbox 360 Controller".

Compatible Games

Any game that supports XInput (the Xbox controller API) works out of the box. This includes the vast majority of modern PC games: GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, FIFA series, Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Forza Horizon, Spider-Man, and thousands of titles on Steam, Epic Games Store, and the Xbox App.

Games that only support keyboard/mouse or have non-standard input can sometimes be configured to accept controller input via Steam Input remapping or in-game controller settings.
